Cheryl and Warren Lee have been running 44th and 3rd Booksellers in Atlanta for over 30 years.

“City Lights” host Lois Reitzes spoke with the two about how a visit to a big-box bookshop in Chicago helped influence the name of their store and how a master’s thesis on the importance of the independent bookshop helped Cheryl Lee develop a business plan.

The husband and wife have also brought their daughter Allyce Lee onboard. She curates the booksellers’ “Flavor of the Month” section. This July focuses on the theme of “resilience” with such titles as “Long Walk To Freedom: The Autobiography of Nelson Mandela,” “David And Goliath” by Malcolm Gladwell and “How We Fight White Supremacy” by Akiba Solomon and Kenrya Rankin.
