Eight Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Installed in Cobb County

Those with electric cars can now charge their vehicles at two Cobb Community Transit locations. A total of eight electric vehicle charging stations have been installed at the Marietta Transfer Station and Busbee Park and Ride.

The eight charging stations were paid for with a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. Cobb Community Transit Operations Manager Darryl Howell says their opening is the largest single installation in Cobb County. He says one of the goals is to promote transit ridership among electric car users as the vehicles grow in popularity.

“We try to stay abreast of the things that are affecting commuting and also the county wants to do its part for the clean air programs in the region and this is an excellent way for us to do that especially since it didn’t cost us any money locally.”

And Howell says drivers are already using the stations.

“The chargers have been used 15 times already in a three week period and we just announced them last week, so I think that’s rather good for a new installation.”

Each station is capable of fully recharging an electric vehicle battery in two to six hours. The company overseeing the project charges those using the stations between one to two dollars per hour depending on the plan they select.
