In the one year since two teachers and two students were killed at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, schools have implemented new procedures, and the state has passed legislation aimed at improving school security.
One of the new requirements is that school districts must provide a system for students, faculty and community members to report concerns anonymously.
This was one of the recommendations made by the non-profit Sandy Hook Promise, an organization formed by people who lost family members in the 2012 Connecticut mass shooting. Sandy Hook Promise chief program officer Crystal Brown-Garrant said that Georgia joins several states that have now mandated schools to provide such reporting systems.
