Fighting The Doctor Shortage In Rural Georgia

Scott Bohlke, the only doctor practicing in the small town of Brooklet, in Bulloch County, has lived the challenges that accompany medical care in rural areas. Many of his patients have no insurance, many live in poverty, and Bohlke sees a high level of chronic disease, including diabetes and hypertension.

Scott Bohlke is the only doctor practicing in Brooklet, a small town in southeastern Georgia.

He has been working there for 21 years. “I didn’t do it for the money. I did it for the [community] need. I think the patients appreciate it,’’ he says.
