First phase of Atlanta Medical Center redevelopment underway

Demolition at the site of Atlanta Medical Center is expected to continue until at least the end of 2025. (BLVDNEXT)

Almost three years after closing to patients, Atlanta Medical Center in the Old Fourth Ward is being demolished. It’s the first phase of several years of work planned for the hospital complex that is slated to become a mixed-use redevelopment project dubbed BLVDNEXT.

There has been a hospital at Boulevard Northeast and Parkway Drive Northeast for more than a century. Atlanta Medical Center was formerly known as Georgia Baptist Hospital.

Old Fourth Ward resident Cohen Stanberry, 18, has seen doctors at AMC for almost as long as he can remember.
