Longtime award-winning journalist Tracie Powell believes in the power of community-based journalism and says she understands the unique barriers that news outlets face when focusing on Black, Indigenous, and people of color.
Some of those barriers include a lack of resources and funding.
On Friday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Powell talked with show host Rose Scott about creating The Pivot Fund. The venture philanthropy organization is dedicated to investing $500 million into independent BIPOC-led community news organizations.
