For longtime public radio listeners, “A Prairie Home Companion” was destination listening. People looked forward to Saturday evening to tune in for the live show. The centerpiece of the show was Garrison Keillor’s “News from Lake Wobegon.”
A Chicago Tribune writer described that unscripted monologue as one of the greatest high wire acts in American culture. The longtime storyteller retired in 2016 and handpicked his successor — mandolin virtuoso Chris Thile. In 2017, the show changed its name to “Live from Here.”
Fans of the popular variety show will get to see classic skits such as “Guy Noir, Private Eye,” “Dusty and Lefty,” and the good folks of “Lake Wobegon.” Plus, some original cast members and musicians will perform alongside Keillor.
