Georgia’s sole Winter Olympics representative, Elana Meyers Taylor, took home her first Olympic gold medal in women’s monobob on Monday.

The Douglasville native’s six medals tie her with speed skater Bonnie Blair for the most by an American female Winter Olympian. She has maintained her title of the most decorated female bobsledder and the most decorated Black athlete in Winter Olympic history.

“At the end of the day, winter sports is largely cast out to a large group of society. Anyone who’s not white is still largely excluded in winter sports,” Meyers Taylor said in an interview on WABE’s “Morning Edition” last week.
