Georgia Tech Invention Named a Top Physical Science Breakthrough of 2012
Scientists at Georgia Tech have invented a new battery that converts your physical motion into electric power and does it efficiently.
Physics World magazine has ranked the device as one of the top-ten physical science breakthroughs this year.
Professor Z.L. Wang led the development team and says you could find these power cells on the market in less than five years.
The professor says “you can use physical motion like you’re walking [or] you’re moving your arm to directly convert electricity and store in a lithium battery for charging for driving personal or portable electronics.”
The device looks like a regular disc-shaped battery.
Dr. Wang holds the Hightower Chair and is a Regents Professor in the School of Materials Science and Engineering.
