Since the Supreme Court ruled in favor of same-sex marriage in 2015, more same-sex couples have appeared in mainstream wedding publications, and more wedding guides curated for same-sex couples have been published.

Kirsten Palladino is well-versed in all things weddings. In 2010, she and her wife founded the online publication Equally Wed to highlight LGBTQ weddings and cover related topics.

But, Palladino noticed that even with more spotlight on same-sex couples, there still wasn’t a guide that reflected the entire LGBTQ community.

“I’ve seen the gamut of wedding books, and there really wasn’t anything for the whole spectrum of LGBTQ people,” she said in an interview with Lois Reitzes. “There were a couple of same-sex wedding books, but they still were for cisgender people and didn’t include gender nonconforming people or transgender people. I felt like we deserved a wedding guide for all of us.”

Palladino released “Equally Wed: The Ultimate Guide to Planning Your LGBTQ+ Wedding” earlier this year. Along with explaining different types of cakes, how to post about your wedding on social media and explainers on different wedding traditions, it also features gender-neutral wedding terms, advice on inviting unsupportive guests and finding vendors who support marriage equality.

The main message of the guide: plan your wedding however you want to.
