The voter registration deadline for the Nov. 8 election in Georgia has come and gone, and now those Georgians who have registered to cast their ballot must make it to the polls.
In a data set comparing poll numbers in metro Atlanta for the past three presidential years, the Atlanta Regional Commission defines voter turnout as “the percentage of registered active voters who actually voted.” From the 2004-2012 elections, the voter turnout rate in the 29-county metro Atlanta area declined everywhere except for Butts County, which has actually had an increase in voter turnout.
According to the ARC, voter registration has actually increased around 28 percent since the 2004 election, as the metro Atlanta has grown. In nearly every county, more women have registered to vote than men.
