The Chinese fashion designer’s work is steeped in imperial design and tradition. She even rediscovered imperial embroidery techniques that had been suppressed during the Cultural Revolution, but her work also pushes the boundaries of contemporary fashion.

The Savannah College of Art and Design’s museum of fashion and film, SCAD FASH, is honoring the designer in their exhibition “Guo Pei: Couture Beyond,” which features more than 30 of her gowns. “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes spoke with SCAD FASH’s director Rafael Gomes and operations manager Rachel Evans about the exhibit and Guo Pei’s career. The exhibit is on view at the museum on SCAD Atlanta’s campus through March 2018.
