Historian Explores Civil Rights In South Through Food
Professor Frederick Opie is a historian, but his new book is as useful to chefs as it is to students of history.
The book is “Southern Food and Civil Rights: Feeding the Revolution,” and it takes a look at the food made and eaten leading up to and during the civil rights movement.
Opie is talking about his book tonight at the Center for Civil and Human Rights. He spoke with “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes about exploring history through food, some of the places and recipes in Atlanta that he highlights in his book and some of the recipes he included.
