Inman Park Lock Box

The Lock-up box was used in Inman Park in Atlanta between 1890-1905, reportedly to keep an individual under arrest until a police patrol wagon could pick them up. Probably no other group of restorers in the country, including those in Natchez and Williamsburg, can exhibit a cute iron, gazebo-shaped lockup for drunks and troublemakers. The Inman Park restorers just acquired theirs and have put it back where it originally served 80-odd years ago in the little park at Delta Place. I went down to see it the other day and learned that it returned courtesy of the Atlanta Gas Light Co. and the city parks department, who displayed it for a time at the Cyclorama.
