Kennesaw Tackles Underage Drinking

Before the ordinance, Graydon said the Department could charge underage drinkers and the people who provided the alcohol.

“But, not necessarily the person who provided the venue space,” said Graydon.

Under the ordinance, if you throw a party where underage drinking occurs, you could face up to $300 in fines and up to 6 months in jail.

“That does give us another tool so to speak to be able to hold the person that not only provided the alcohol but the person who provided the venue for the party,” said Graydon.

Graydon says it’s an effort to crack down on underage binge drinking. He says that’s been a problem in Kennesaw, which has become a college town. Kennesaw State University is the state’s third largest college. Graydon says the school and Cobb County’s alcohol task force helped create the ordinance.
