Kennesaw State University researcher Awatef Ergai says communication is essential. This is especially true as the engineering field becomes more diverse and globally interconnected.
Ergai, an associate professor of industrial and systems engineering, was recently awarded a $200,000 grant from the National Science Foundation. Ergai and fellow researchers will launch a two-year study using the story circles methodology. The methodology, commonly used in group settings, encourages communication techniques like active listening, two-way dialogues, and reflection. The pilot study will target engineering students in their junior year.
Ergai and associate professor of German Shane Peterson were featured guests on “Closer Look.” They talked with program host Rose Scott about the goal of the study and the importance of making sure KSU engineering students have the skills they need to communicate effectively.
