It was an announcement that drew steep criticism. Last month, the State Department announced the United States would suspend the processing of immigrant visas for applicants from 75 countries.
Citing an effective date of Jan. 21, it would affect applicants from Latin America and the Caribbean, the Balkans and several countries in South Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
There’s been an update to the policy on the state department’s website as of Feb. 2. As for a reason, the Trump administration has been claiming these are people who would likely require public assistance once living in the U.S. A claim that has not been proven to be accurate and now a lawsuit has been filed.
