The Cop City Vote Coalition has filed a lawsuit against the City of Atlanta.

The coalition opposes the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center and recently submitted a draft petition to Atlanta’s Municipal Clerk’s office so that the group could start collecting signatures for a voter referendum to break the facility’s lease.

The coalition says Atlanta Interim Municipal Clerk Vanessa Waldon rejected their application twice.

On Wednesday’s edition of “Closer Look” Kurt Kastorf, the legal advisor for Cop City Vote Coalition, discusses the reasons why the clerk denied the coalition’s request and the pending lawsuit.

*Update: Since the original broadcast of this segment, the “Closer Look” team received an email from the coalition saying that the petition has been approved, but no decision has been made regarding the pending lawsuit.
