Local package stores expect strong Super Bowl Sunday sales

Several local liquor stores are expecting strong sales this Super Bowl Sunday.  This is the first year that many stores can sell on the actual day of the big event since Sunday sales have been allowed in cities and counties throughout Georgia.

Green’s Beverages on Ponce De Leon is already seeing a higher number of keg reservations for this Sunday versus normal Sundays. Manager Scott Glenny says the store is also expecting a greater number of beer and alcohol sales.

“We’ve got extra help coming in and we’re going to have two managers and we’ve stepped up our stocking staff, so I think it’s going to be really busy.”

Gwinnett Package in Duluth is also bringing in extra staff.  Owner Ronak Patel is anticipating a surge in sales.

“We definitely expect a lot of people to come in. Hope to do 20 to 25 percent higher sales than a regular Sunday.”

And even though both stores are expecting a higher volume of sales this Sunday, Patel and Glenny say sales have been strong on most Sundays since they’ve been allowed to stay open on Sunday.
