Local pediatric infectious diseases expert talks vaccination rates for children under 5

The United States Food and Drug Administration has given emergency authorization for the Pfizer vaccine for children ages 5 and older.

On Friday’s edition of “Closer Look” Dr. Andi Shane, the chief of the division of pediatric infectious diseases at Emory University School of Medicine and the medical director of infectious disease at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, talked with program host Rose Scott about vaccination rates for children in Georgia and the ongoing fight to reach herd immunity.

“Most of the children who have been hospitalized over the past 4-5 months have been children who have not been vaccinated,” said Dr. Shane.
