Icon Hair and Wigs is one of the many Georgia businesses that won’t be reopening Friday, despite Gov. Brian Kemp’s decision to open some nonessential businesses.

Earlier this week, Kemp announced a plan to reopen Georgia’s economy in phases.

The first phase is expected to start Friday with the reopening of gyms, bowling alleys, hair salons, tattoo parlors, barbershops and many other similar businesses.

Movie theaters and restaurants are expected to open Monday.

Kemp says businesses that reopen are expected to follow social-distancing guidelines outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and must meet other sanitation requirements.

Icon Hair and Wigs is an East Atlanta Village business that specializes in the customization of wigs and wig units.

The shop’s owner, Toni Neal, told “Closer Look” host Rose Scott during a recent interview that the health of her clients and staff comes first.

“We are in an industry that we have to physically touch the client,” Neal explained. “And unfortunately, you cannot practice 6 feet social distancing by doing that.”

Neal also discussed a possible timeline for when Iconic Hair and Wigs could reopen for in-person appointments and the current services her business is offering during the COVID-19 pandemic.
