Marietta Student’s Art Could Be Featured As Google Doodle

Helena Soriano’s artwork, called “Wildlife Wonders” could be featured as a Google Doodle.

Helena Soriano, a freshman at Pope High School in Marietta, is among 53 students in the nation whose artwork is in the running to be featured on Google in the annual “Doodle 4 Google” contest.

The national winner will receive a $30,000 scholarship and $50,000 grant for the winner’s school.

Soriano, whose favorite subjects are art, history and biology, said her mother was looking at possible scholarships and encouraged her daughter to enter the “Doodle 4 Google” contest.

“She kinda pushed me to do this,” Soriano said. “I’m glad that I did it.”

Soriano’s piece is called “Wildlife Wonders” and features animals in their natural habitats. She said she really likes drawing the animals, and they inspire her.

“For career choices, if I didn’t want to be an artist, then I probably would be a scientist or something with nature,” Soriano said. “I’m not sure exactly what I want to major in and stuff like that, but it’s good to be prepared, I think.”

Soriano’s work is now featured on Google’s contest page where people an vote for their favorite pieces. When the voting ends, five finalists will advance to the next round.

How To Vote

Voting for the 53 state and territory winners began May 7 and will continue until May 18, according to the contest page.
