Albany Mayor On Reopening: We Request Our Citizens Continue To Shelter In Place

Gov. Brian Kemp’s decision to partially open some nonessential businesses is getting slammed by health experts.

And some politicians, including several Georgia mayors, are calling the move dangerous.

Bo Dorough is the mayor of Albany, Georgia, a city of about 78,000 people in southwest Georgia.

The hospital there, Phoebe Putney Health System, has had 72 deaths and more than 2,000 diagnosed cases of COVID-19. Some say Albany is a hot spot in Georgia for COVID-19.

WABE’s host of “All Things Considered,” Jim Burress spoke to Dorough about the coronavirus. Burress asked the mayor his reaction to the number of deaths and Kemp’s opening up the state.
