Atlanta’s dance scene is vibrant and eclectic, and we are honored to highlight some of the many local dancers that move us with their movements in our ongoing series “Speaking of Dance.” For this edition, we highlight contemporary dancer Alejandro Abarca dancing to music from E S G and Caroline Shaw.

A movement artist and educator, Alejandro Abarca considers himself a contemporary dancer because he loves the body’s capability and potential for movement. “I have this thought that dancers can be conduits to the world around us and it is our job or responsibility to be available and aware of everything inside us and around us. So I am very inspired by the magic in the mundaneness of life,” says Abarca.

He finds freedom in the contemporary genre because it pulls from so many other styles like jazz and ballet and even incorporates modalities like yoga and gymnastics.
