Our relationship goes back 15,000 years – that’s how long humans and dogs have been friends. Their unconditional love for us is an ongoing inspiration, and that’s how Matt Hobbs, musical improviser for Dad’s Garage Theatre Company, came up with the idea to write weekly puppy songs during quarantine.

“Learning that it was something that I could do from lockdown that had any kind of impact on other people, that’s when I was like, ‘let’s do this, let’s make some puppy songs and let’s see what happens,’” said Hobbs.

Hobbs has been a musical improviser at Dad’s since 2012. He’s also written songs for countless productions (including Black Nerd, Woman of the Year), and he’s currently writing a musical for the theatre as well.  He releases  new puppy song videos every Tuesday and Friday on his Instagram page: @puppysongs “Leni + Marley.”

Hobbs also wrote a special puppy song for “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes’ dog Rex, it’s called “Rex, the Golden Observer.” If you’re wondering how Rex got that adorable nickname, it’s because he would rather cuddle than fetch anything.
