You may not think competitive sports and social justice go together. Still, when Atlanta hosted what was then described as the “largest peacetime event in history,” the 1996 Olympic Games, some say it gave new resonance to Atlanta’s tagline, “the city too busy to hate.”

A new documentary, “The Games in Black & White,” follows the cross-community and race-integrated partnership of Ambassador Andrew Young and 1996 Olympics CEO Billy Payne through the launch of the Games in Atlanta and the untold stories of the transformation that followed.

The film premieres at the Rialto Center for the Arts on April 26. Co-producers George Hirthler and Bob Judson joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to discuss the film.
