New Falcons Stadium Could Relocate Church

The City of Atlanta and the Atlanta Falcons have agreed on how to pay for a new stadium. But the stadium’s location is still in question.

The Falcons’ preferred plan would move Friendship Baptist Church located just outside Atlanta’s Vine City neighborhood.

Friendship Baptist Church sits at the corner of Northside and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, just one block south of the Georgia Dome. 30 year old Chaz Smith just got out of church and says he’s not opposed to relocating for the Falcons.

“They should assist in finding a location. It’s shouldn’t just be up to us, if they want the space. And really the church is about community anyway, so it doesn’t matter where it’s at, as long as everybody comes to worship.”

The Falcons and the State have talked with members of Vine City for more than a year. However one Friendship member who declined to give her name was concerned the historical nature of the church could be diminished in relocating to a new building.

If the stadium can’t secure this land across the street from the Georgia Dome, then it will build in an alternate location about half a mile north.
