The newest leader of Georgia Power says the COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with protests following the police killings of unarmed Black people, has made 2020 a difficult and challenging year.

“Kind of the worst of times, but I think we are learning to learn from it and trying to be better from it, and I am looking forward to a bright future,” said Chris Womack, president of Georgia Power.

The new leader of the Atlanta-based company was a guest on Monday’s edition of “Closer Look.”

Womack, who will take over additional responsibilities as chairman and CEO of Georgia Power in April 2021 when Paul Bowers steps down, is one of the many leaders show host Rose Scott has talked with this year in a series of conversations about diversity and inclusion and corporate social responsibility.

“As I listen and as I learn what’s going on in the company, they know that I will be accessible, they know I’ll be engaged, and they know we will do this work with a high degree of energy,” said Womack.

During the conversation, Womack defined his leadership style, shared how the utility company has been operating during the global health crisis, provided an update about Plant Vogtle and shared what’s next for the company moving into 2021.
