Nick Offerman Brings ‘Good Clean Fun’ Woodworking To Atlanta

You probably know him as the carnivorous, mustachioed Ron Swanson of the sitcom “Parks and Recreation,” and while the actor Nick Offerman and his fictional character may be different in many ways, they both share a love of fine woodworking.

Offerman is in Atlanta this week touring for his new book, “Good Clean Fun: Misadventures in Sawdust at Offerman Woodshop.” It is both a beautifully illustrated how-to guide to some of the woodshop’s favorite projects, and an ode to the craft and the people who practice it.

“I took great pleasure in writing a book that anyone can buy for their kids,” Offerman tells “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes. Offerman’s aim in writing the book was not only to provide instruction, but to encourage people to have fun with the craft, calling it “bewitching.”

“The great thing about woodworking,” Offerman says, “like making anything with your hands — it doesn’t matter what’s going on in your brain otherwise. They engender a way of life. Once you become a problem solver by making things, it makes your whole life better.”

Nick Offerman appears at Georgia Tech’s Ferst Center for the Arts Wednesday, October 19 at 7 p.m.
