Nonprofit Tech Company ‘Recycles’ Unused Prescriptions To Help Patients In Need

Even prior to the coronavirus pandemic, the average American spent $1,200 a year on prescription drugs, according to data from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

That’s a higher rate than any other developed country in the world.

And, health care experts worry the COVID-19 pandemic will just amplify the problem.

The New York Times recently reported multiple prescription managers indicate prices are already increasing for certain prescriptions, particularly those for conditions associated with a higher coronavirus risk.

On Tuesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Kiah Williams, co-founder of SIRUM — which operates out of Georgia and California — shared how her company “recycles” and distributes surplus medicine to low-income Americans.
