On what would have been Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s 97th birthday, President Donald Trump is threatening to invoke the Insurrection Act in Minnesota. This comes as ongoing protests continue after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent shot and killed Renee Good last week, and another federal agent shot a Venezuelan man in the leg on Wednesday.

On Thursday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Democratic U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock stressed the importance of combating the fear and despair that he said the Trump administration is intentionally trying to spread. Warnock encouraged people to stand up against the evil happening in the U.S. by protesting nonviolently and to continue lifting up Good’s name.

During the conversation, Warnock reflected on Dr. King’s life and legacy. He discussed the intersection of politics and moral leadership, then explained how the values of his faith guide his work in the Senate.
