OSHA Investigating Parking Deck Collapse In Atlanta

Workplace safety authorities are investigating two collapses at an under-construction Atlanta parking deck.

Atlanta fire officials say a concrete slab fell Saturday, sending a worker, who was trying to shore up the structure, plunging.

The worker, officials say, was taken to the hospital and treated for leg injuries.

Eric Lucero, Occupational Safety and Health Administration public affairs director, says OSHA was on the scene at the time of the second collapse as crews were trying to fix the structure from another section of concrete that fell and injured six construction workers Friday.

The 3,000-space parking garage is being built at Emory University Hospital’s Winship Cancer Institute just north of downtown Atlanta.

The $470 million project was supposed to be completed next year.

The structure is going up in a 17-story tower on a parcel of land separate from the parking garage.
