  • 41:26: From Sept. 5 to Nov. 30, 2018, researchers at Austin Public Health, with help from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, tracked 936,110 e-scooter rides around the city. They found for every 100,000 trips taken, 20 individuals were injured. Jeff Taylor, Senior Epidemiologist at Austin Public Health and Jason JonMichael, Assistant Director of Smart Mobility with the Transportation Department, join “Closer Look” by phone to discuss their findings and how other cities, like Atlanta, could use this data to promote safer streets.

Closer Look is produced by Candace Wheeler and Grace Walker. Joy Barge is a contributing producer.

Editor’s note: This post has been updated to note Robert Mayberry, professor and vice chair of the Department of Community Health and Preventative Medicine, was not a part of the roundtable on the legacy of Dr. Blumenthal. An earlier version of this article said he took part in the roundtable.
