On City Lights’ series “Speaking of Music,” local musicians share work and stories in their own voices. In today’s segment, we feature Atlanta psych-rock band Black Cat Rising. Members of the band include Cullen Curtis on guitar, keys and vocals, Benjamin J. Davidow on guitar, keys and vocals, Pietro DiGennaro on drums, and Henrik Mattsson on bass, keys and vocals.

The band appreciates the great sense of community, support from other musicians and the seedy element that Atlanta has to offer. Although influenced by many artists, the top three would be the Stooges, David Bowie and Frank Zappa.

I feel like what really motivates us as a band is the fact that none of us are really married to any concept,” Curtis said.
