ROSWELL, Ga. — Roswell became the latest Georgia city to place a moratorium on data centers, Jan. 12.

It was among the first official acts by the city’s reconstituted governing body that includes a new mayor and three new City Council members.

City Councilwoman Sarah Beeson spoke in support of the temporary ban, saying data centers are a strain on land and Roswell’s utilities and power grid.

“Really it’s just us taking a look at our code and seeing if that fits anywhere and where that possibly would,” Beeson said.

Applause broke out among the crowd when councilmembers voted in favor of the moratorium that is set to expire April 12.

Close to a dozen cities or counties have hit the pause button on data centers over the past year.
