Peachtree City Resident Discusses The Impact That Sparks Of Kindness Can Have

Now more than ever, Debbie McFarland of Peachtree City says lots of us want to do something kind for others. But sometimes, we just don’t know where to start.

Eight years ago, that sparked an idea — why not form a community where kindness-doers, quarter-leavers, hot-chocolate-carriers and cookie-tin-droppers share how they made someone else smile?

Her theory being, that spark would be the catalyst for more acts of kindness.

Although relatively simple in theory, the “Sparks of Kindness” online community has spread like wildfire, now boasting nearly 6,000 members on its Facebook page. McFarland calls those folks “Sparklers.”

She spoke to WABE’s “All Things Considered” host Jim Burress about why, especially during the coronavirus pandemic, the message resonates and shared some Sparkler stories from across metro Atlanta.
