Smyrna Mayor Derek Norton says there’s light at the end of the tunnel — and lifting mask restrictions was not an easy decision.

On Wednesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Norton talked with show host Rose Scott about why he lifted the city’s mask mandate on April 26.

“Lifting the order does not mean people can’t wear a mask,” Norton said. “You know, I think by now, I’m extremely proud of our citizens here in Smyrna. They have complied with the mandate. They know what to do. Nobody at this point in the process doesn’t know to stay a little bit farther away from people and wear a mask in close settings.”

During the virtual conversation, Norton discussed Smyrna’s progress as it relates to vaccinations and shared details about other measures the city is taking to provide assistance to residents in need and to combat the coronavirus.
