An exhibition on tour is dedicated to highlighting philanthropy in communities of color.

It’s called “The Soul of Philanthropy” and is currently on view at the Auburn Avenue Research Library and features 50 black and white images and text along with highlighting some of Atlanta’s own philanthropists.

The exhibit is based on philanthropist and writer Valaida Fullwood’s 2011 book “Giving Back” and hopes to refine what philanthropy is and inspire future philanthropists.

“We’re broadening the definition of philanthropy, so it can be more inclusive,” said Atlanta curator Tracy Murrell. “By broadening the definition and highlighting what it is within our community, there is a sense of wow, I belong … it’s really caring and loving.”

Murrell spoke with “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes about the exhibit, which is on view through Jan. 22, along with Elyse Hammett, the Vice President of Marketing and Communications with the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta.
