A 74-year-old gay man remembers life in the 1950s.
Atlanta, GA – 74-year-old Richard Rhodes has been working for gay rights in the South for decades and he was the first openly gay chairman of the Dekalb County Democratic Party. Working alongside him for many years has been fellow activist Dave Hayward. At StoryCorps, Dave began the conversation by asking Richard about growing up in Florida in the 1940s and ’50s.
