On Aug. 8, 2016, Atlanta attorney Linda Klein began a one-year term as the president of the American Bar Association, one of the most influential organizations in the country.

Klein immediately announced an initiative to make more legal help available to America’s military veterans. And within a month after becoming ABA president, she sent a letter to Republican and Democratic leaders in the U.S. Senate, urging them to hold confirmation votes on 20 of the President’s nominees to Federal judgeships. Klein said the backlog of unconfirmed nominees has created serious problems for the nation’s legal system.
