The United Parcel Service is looking to cut 30,000 jobs this year and offered to pay some workers to leave voluntarily. But after local unions filed grievances, the Atlanta-based company is withdrawing its voluntary separation program for drivers in 13 Central Region states.
Under its “Driver Choice Program,” the company offers $150,000 to drivers in exchange for a permanent separation from the company.
Local unions say that’s illegal and a violation of the UPS Teamsters contract. Now, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters says the delivery giant has rescinded the offer after dozens of local unions in the Central Region, from Nebraska to Ohio, filed grievances.
