This month there has been an extra push from the American Red Cross asking eligible individuals to donate blood for the sole purpose of collecting convalescent plasma. That’s the liquid part of the blood from those who have fully recovered from COVID-19.
The antibodies in that liquid can be used to treat active coronavirus cases.
Since Wednesday, the Georgia Department of Public Health reported a little more than 4,000 new coronavirus cases.

WABE’s “Morning Edition host Lisa Rayam followed up with Red Cross spokesperson Ronnika McFall to see how Georgia fared to help those trying to recuperate in this nationwide effort.
Mcfall and her office were in the midst of celebrating their uptick this week in appointments for convalescent plasma.
