Satya Bhan rides his scooter to get around town. He says he stopped driving when he moved to Atlanta due to the city’s traffic and infrastructure.

His life was forever changed in 2023 when he woke up in the hospital with a brain bleed and other injuries. He had left a bar, was riding a scooter, and was injured by a hit-and-run driver.

Bhan is one of the many people who are featured in a new Propel ATL report, “The Human Cost of Mobility.” According to the report, 344 people died across three metro Atlanta counties due to traffic crashes in 2023. Also, among the report’s findings — pedestrian and bicyclist fatalities mirror homicide levels, but they don’t receive as much media attention.
