The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Secretary Sean P. Duffy announced Tuesday a $3.89 billion loan that will help fund Georgia’s State Route 400 Express Lanes Project, the largest loan ever approved by the department for a single borrower.

The funding, secured by the Build America Bureau, will be designated to a public-private partnership between the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), the State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA) and SR 400 Peach Partners, LLC.

According to the department, the bureau is responsible for accelerating investment in transportation infrastructure by lending federal funds to vetted public and private borrowers, offering technical assistance services and grants for local and regional development, and implementing efficient practices in project planning.
