#4. This week, WABE reporter Stephannie Stokes analyzed years of records from Fulton County’s property tax auction. Of the more than 3,000 properties auctioned, 80% were in neighborhoods that for decades have been mostly made of which ethnicity?

It’s Black.

WABE obtained years of delinquent tax collection data, including all properties auctioned for taxes in Fulton County between 2015 and 2022. That amounted to more than 3,200 parcels.

There are several factors that could contribute to this disparity. These areas, all of which were more than 80% Black at the start of the period analyzed, had lower incomes and older homes.

#5. Which Georgia university football team decided to turn down an invitation from The White House on Tuesday, citing scheduling conflicts?

It’s the University of Georgia Bulldogs.

According to a statement released by the Georgia athletic association on Tuesday, the Bulldogs will not be able to attend a June 12 event with other college teams at the White House. The event is described by President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden as “College Athlete Day.”
