After 18 months of no in-person productions, Out Front Theatre Company skates dazzlingly back into the spotlight this season with their first full-scale production since before COVID-19 lockdown. The company’s production of “Xanadu“ is now playing at Out Front Theatre in Atlanta through Nov. 14 in collaboration with student actors from Georgia State University.
It’s a boisterous disco-pop fantasy, full of song, dance and roller-skating, based on the cult classic film starring Olivia Newton-John and since adapted into a hit Broadway musical. Out Front Theatre Company Founder and Artistic Director Paul Conroy joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes via Zoom and Susan Reid, professor of film, media and theater at Georgia State. They discussed the wild world of “Xanadu” and how the Out Front cast is bringing it to life with the help of local theater students.
“I think this is a silly, funny, splashy, campy show, and I think that’s what all of us need right now. We need a couple of hours of escapism, and we just need to sit back and smile and laugh,” said Conroy.
