Music fans who experienced the 1970s will likely remember it as a time of exploration, with jazz, soul, pop, rock and world music forming a crucible from which entirely new sounds emerged.
One of the boldest and most joyful fusion experiments of the time returns this year for their 50th-anniversary reunion tour – the band is Shakti, founded by British guitarist John McLaughlin and Indian tabla player Zakir Hussain.
In this interview, the two artists join “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to talk about the reformed Shakti, its new lineup, and their upcoming show Aug. 25 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.
