Colleagues and friends of Johnny Isakson reflect on his legacy

Johnny Isakson has died at 76. The Georgia Republican rose from the ranks of the state legislature to become a U.S. senator, helping to pave the way for his party’s rise to power in the 2000s. He was known as an effective behind-the-scenes consensus builder famous for saying he had only “friends and future friends.”

Isakson’s colleagues from every level of government and across the political spectrum have expressed their condolences and admiration for the late statesman. Several political leaders and a local journalist stopped by “Morning Edition” to share reflections.
