LaVita Tuff, the policy director of Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta, says that because Gwinnett County has a large Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders population, her organization has worked to provide language assistance at voter polls — even though it’s a service that county election officials could provide.

“At some point section, Gwinnett County has to realize that Section 203 is the ceiling, not the floor,” Tuff said on Wednesday’s edition of “Closer Look.”

Tuff further discussed the U.S. Census Bureau’s new list of jurisdictions that are now covered under Section 203 of the Voting Rights Act, which requires that certain states, counties and election officials provide language assistance for non-English speakers.
