The neo-classical music ensemble Abilene creates with a philosophy of reinvention. The quartet from Miami brings unusual instrumentation and percussion to their sweeping compositions, sometimes reinventing household objects as musical instruments to extend their sound further beyond the boundaries of the familiar.

In this interview, Abilene’s pianist and percussionist Joshua Spacht joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to discuss the group’s music and upcoming performance.
